01: The MS150 Bike to the Beach from San Antonio
to Corpus Christi
The MS150 is a two-day, 150-mile ride from San Antonio to Corpus Christi that raises funds for MS research and aid to those living with the disease. There were around 3700 riders this year. That was actually fewer riders than the previous year, but the total amount collected was up a lot. I believe the total was just short of $200k.
We hooked up with the VeloValero, Valero Energy Corporation's bike team. We'd heard from a good source that Valero's rider support, free transport back to San Antonio after the race, and their excellent food service along the ride was unbeatable. I wish I could say Addison and I were courted by Valero for our cycling prowess, but all we had to do was buy a couple jerseys. The Valero team has around 270 riders. That made us the largest team in the ride. Also, being the key sponsor of the event, we were allowed to start before any of the other riders on Day-one.
