Tour de Gruene 2006
03: The Race

Finally it was time to start the show. The unfortunate part of a
race like this is, as a spectator, you only get to see the participants
at the very beginning and at the very end. Thanks again goes to the
event photographer who caught mid-race shots. Without his great work,
we would have had a dimmer view of what the riders were going through.
With new time to kill, we
walked around the neighborhood, noting interesting businesses we'd
be interested in visiting on a weekday. It seemed all but a select
few were open for business on Sunday, but we were pleased to find
BodyWerks, a terrific new age/massage place and a key event sponsor
very much open. Nadine was in heaven: candles, scented oils, new
age music, beautifully-decorated massage tables, books, fountains
and more kept her busy for nearly too much time.
With questioning the staff and smelling everything smellable, we feared we had missed cheering Addison and Branton's finish. The whole loop was only supposed to take about an hour and fifteen minutes and we had blown about that time already amongst the charms and incense. We exited and collected Ian from the free food table BodyWerks had set up for visitors and riders and waited at the finish line, hoping we could still catch the boys' return. We got lucky. They arrived no more than 10 minutes later.
